Activity Description

Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows direct visualization and treatment of intra-articular pathology through small portals using an arthroscope and specialized instruments. The activity reviews the procedure’s role in addressing conditions, eg, osteochondral lesions, synovitis, loose bodies, anterior impingement, posttraumatic changes, and early degenerative disease. By exploring anatomy, pathophysiology, surgical approaches, and postoperative management, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how ankle arthroscopy supports diagnostic precision and therapeutic effectiveness while minimizing soft tissue trauma and expediting recovery compared to open procedures.

This course explores portal placement, instrumentation, and complication prevention strategies, as well as the indications and contraindications for surgery. Patient selection, risk assessment, and rehabilitation protocols that optimize outcomes are also reviewed. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance the learner's competence in integrating evidence-based arthroscopic techniques into practice, improving interprofessional collaboration in perioperative care, and ultimately enhancing patient safety, functional recovery, and satisfaction.
