At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify patients at high risk for Wernicke encephalopathy using clinical risk states and the Caine criteria.
Interpret magnetic resonance imaging patterns that support Wernicke encephalopathy and proceed with care when imaging is nondiagnostic.
Implement guideline-aligned parenteral thiamine dosing with timely magnesium replacement and safe sequencing with dextrose in suspected Wernicke encephalopathy.
Coordinate interprofessional pathways to improve prophylaxis, screening, and early treatment for high-risk individuals.
