Activity Description

Supraorbital nerve block is a regional anesthetic technique used to provide anesthesia to the forehead, upper eyelid, and anterior scalp, and may also be used in selected headache and neuralgia syndromes. This activity reviews the relevant anatomy and physiology of the supraorbital nerve, patient selection, indications, contraindications, equipment, preparation, and step-by-step procedural technique for performing the block safely and effectively. This article also discusses potential complications, including local anesthetic systemic toxicity, bleeding, infection, nerve injury, and orbital complications, along with strategies to reduce these risks. In addition, this activity examines the clinical significance of the supraorbital nerve block in procedural anesthesia and pain management. Emphasis is placed on interprofessional collaboration among clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to support informed consent, safe medication use, appropriate monitoring, early recognition of adverse events, care coordination, and improved patient-centered outcomes.
