Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the major etiologic categories of anemia using the mean corpuscular volume and reticulocyte-based classification system.
Apply a systematic, evidence-based diagnostic approach to a patient with anemia, including appropriate laboratory and ancillary testing.
Assess patients with anemia for complications involving the cardiovascular, obstetric, neurologic, perioperative, and hematologic systems.
Coordinate with the interprofessional team to optimize outcomes for patients with anemia.
