Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the pharmacologic properties, dosage forms, and routes of administration of lidocaine.
Differentiate among local anesthetic, antiarrhythmic, and topical analgesic applications of lidocaine based on their mechanisms of action and therapeutic goals.
Determine maximum safe lidocaine doses based on patient weight, formulation, epinephrine use, and comorbid conditions.
Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare team members to optimize patient safety, minimize complications, and improve outcomes associated with lidocaine therapy.
