Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the clinical manifestations and risk factors associated with mild, moderate, and severe hypothermia to facilitate early recognition and diagnosis.
Assess patients with suspected hypothermia using appropriate core temperature measurement techniques and recognize the limitations of standard thermometry devices.
Select evidence-based rewarming strategies, including passive, active external, active internal, and extracorporeal techniques, based on hypothermia severity and hemodynamic status.
Evaluate candidates for extracorporeal life support in severe accidental hypothermia and apply the HOPE score to support prognostication and treatment decisions.
