Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify the indications, contraindications, pharmacologic properties, and adverse effect profile of bupivacaine used in regional anesthesia and analgesia.
Implement evidence-based monitoring and safety strategies during and after bupivacaine administration to reduce preventable complications.
Select appropriate rescue interventions, including lipid emulsion therapy, for the management of suspected local anesthetic systemic toxicity.
Collaborate with interprofessional healthcare providers to ensure safe bupivacaine administration and emergency preparedness, including access to resuscitation equipment and lipid emulsion therapy.
